Everards helps tackle prostate cancer with PROSTaid
Everards, has teamed up with local charity PROSTaid to raise awareness of the importance of regular checking for prostate cancer.
Posters designed by PROSTaid will be displayed in the men's toilets of all Everards pubs in an initiative to help men understand the condition and bring attention to its seriousness. The posters will coincide with Testicular Awareness month in April and will advise men to seek medical advice if they notice something different in their urinary functions, such as hesitancy, reduced flow, increased frequency or lack of bladder control.
Rob Banner, Trustee/Director of PROSTaid said, "Richard Everard is a patron of the charity and the brewery has always been supportive of our work. Raising awareness is the single most important factor in tackling prostate cancer, because the condition can quietly develop with little or no symptoms and so many men don't find out until it's too late."
"1 in 6 men in Britain will suffer some sort of prostate problems, with 35,000 men contracting prostate cancer. Out of this amount 10,000 will die and this figure is rising by 7.6% per year, but it has a high chance of being cured if caught early, so it is vitally important to get checked out if you notice something wrong. Men over the age of 45 should particularly get themselves routinely checked out, particularly if they have a male relative that has or has had the disease."
"The problem is that prostate cancer is marginalised in this country. It is very similar to breast cancer, but where there are 654 dedicated breast cancer nurses in the UK, there are only 5 dedicated to prostate cancer, one of whom the Charity recently funded at Leicester General Hospital. Hopefully the poster campaign will catch the pub goer's attention, make them think about getting checked and ultimately raise the profile of fighting the condition, and save local lives."
Richard Everard the brewery chairman said, "PROSTaid are a very important charity and do fantastic work, so we are only too happy to help in any way we can."
The charity has so far raised £350,000 towards fighting prostate cancer locally and donations are welcome. For more information on the charity and prostate cancer, log on to www.prostaid.co.uk/
