Newbury Blues score with rugby calendar

Picture about this news item

The Royal Blenheim pub in Oxford is hoping to raise funds for a new baby incubator, with a charity calendar launched with the help of Newbury Blues rugby club.

Dan Smaje, licensee of the Royal Blenheim and semi-professional rugby player with the Blues, stars in the calendar which is in aid of the "New Life" charity which raises money for incubation units for babies born prematurely or with ill health. The calendar features players posing in a range of rugby related poses with their own children, nieces, nephews or supporters children.

The Blenheim Pub, on St Ebbes St, which is famed for its award winning pies and range of real ales, has recently had a refurbishment and introduced a new menu last year. The calendar is priced at £5, with all money raised going to the charity.

Dan said: "'New Life' is a fantastic charity which is a doing great work in the local community and I'm really happy to play my part in the distribution of the calendar to help raise money. The lads had a lot of fun making it. The end result is fantastic and that little bit different from other calendars you can buy."

He added "We need to raise about five thousand pounds for the new incubator unit, so we are urging locals to get down to the pub and grab a calendar as well as their pints. It would also make a great Valentines Day gift, for any man searching for something different for their partners!"
