Friends Raise Thousands Cycling For Hospice
Posted on 8th February 2010
The three friends swapped their overalls for cycling shorts as they completed an epic 300 mile charity bike ride from London to Paris.
The large sum was raised through sponsorship and a number of fund-raising activities and events including a Robbie Williams tribute night, riding static bikes outside local stores and a healthy living fair.Pete’s partner Val Cooper said: “This is a fantastic amount and we are all really proud to have been a part of this.
“When we went to present the money they very kindly showed us around the hospice and explained what the money would be used for.”
The group set an original target of £3,750 for their nominated charity LOROS, the Leicestershire and Rutland Organisations for the Relief of Suffering, but smashed that within the first few weeks.
Frank said: “We chose LOROS as it is a local charity to Leicester and we knew people in the community would be more enthusiastic to support us as many know someone who has made use of the amazing support the charity provides.”
LOROS is a specialist hospice that provides skilled nursing and medical care to terminally ill patients aged 18 years and above, supported by physiotherapists, occupational therapists and social workers. The charity bike ride was organised by Skyline and involved 130 participants raising money for different charities.
