The Sun Inn Gives MP Alan Duncan Warm Reception

Posted on 12th April 2010

MP Alan Duncan chose to visit Everards pub The Sun Inn in Cottesmore to mark British Tourism Week.

The Conservative shadow minister was joined by Everards’ managing director Stephen Gould and saw firsthand the important role pubs play in attracting tourists from both home and abroad seeking a truly British experience.

Erika Hardy, marketing manager for Everards Brewery, said: “We were delighted to welcome Alan Duncan into one of our pubs during British Tourism Week. We are proud that people travel from all over the world to visit our pubs and savour traditional ales, both of which are British icons and deserve to be celebrated.”

Alan was at the pub as a guest of the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA), who supported the tourism industry initiative. BBPA Midland’s regional secretary Richard Matthews said: “Pubs play a vital role in tourism and Everards have over 170 wonderful pubs providing hospitality and refreshment to Leicestershire’s many visitors.”

While at the pub Stephen Gould handed Mr Duncan a copy of the BBPA’s I’m Backing the Pub manifesto, in which the pub’s role as the life and soul of Britain’s communities is highlighted.

Top spots to combine a day out and a pub visit in Leicestershire;
• Motor racing enthusiasts visiting the midlands should head to the White Horse in Silverstone after a day watching cars zoom round the famous race track.
• Tourists on the history trail should fight their way to the White Swan in Stoke Golding which backs onto the field where the historic Battle of Bosworth took place.
• Culture vultures visiting Southwell Minster should pop in the Hearty Goodfellow for a pint of traditional conditioned cask ale.
• Nature lovers should discuss their latest bird-spottings at the renowned nature reserve Rutland Water over some real ales in the Wheatsheaf in Edith Weston.
• For those that love the great outdoors, The Bradgate pub gives a warm welcome after a ramble around the famous deer and country park.
