Cricketers Resume Old Rivalry To Help Cancer Charity
Posted on 12th July 2010
Village pub team the Heathcote Arms played Croft Cricket Club at the Recreation Ground on Sunday 4 July in a charity match in support of Children with Leukaemia.
And the pub boys, led by landlord Ian Brown, had a score to settle having lost to the Croft team in a similar event 12 months ago.
Ian has been running the Everards owned pub on Hill Street with his wife Julie for the last two years.
Julie said: “The squad have been training hard because they really want to try and win this year’s match. We’re quietly confident, but ultimately this event is all about raising money for charity.
“We’ve chosen Children with Leukaemia because one of our regular customers recently found out his daughter has the disease and so far we have raised over £550 for her cause.”
Spectators made the most of the good weather and and came back to the Heathcote afterwards to enjoy a celebratory BBQ.
We are looking for new licensees to run the Heathcote Arms. To register your interest
