Meet Tudor Thomas: Runner Up Tiger Local Hero 2010

Tudor Thomas, a former head teacher and a selfless volunteer who has dedicated much of his free time to supporting players from Cosby Rugby Club has been officially crowned Runner Up in Tiger Best Bitter’s Support Your Local Hero campaign.
The contest rewards unsung members of the community for their contribution and support to local causes.
Tudor was nominated by Paul and Gaynor Hodges, licensees of the Bulls Head in Cosby. Tudor is a regular at the pub and his involvement with both the Leicester Tigers and Cosby Rugby Club has made him a much-loved local figure.
Gaynor said: “Tudor volunteered so much time to Cosby Rugby Club and all of us down at the Bulls Head think he deserves some recognition. Even into his seventies he still marked the pitch every week.
“It was only recently that Tudor completely retired from his involvement at the rugby club but the young players still know about all he did for the club and have complete respect for him.”
Now in his eighties, Tudor has taken up bowls as he feels it is a little quieter!
Kind-hearted Tudor has chosen to donate half of his £200 prize money to the Derbyshire Leicestershire Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA). It recently came to the rescue and helped a Cosby Rugby Club player who suffered an injury during training.
Tudor said: “Everards gave me an amazing reception at the Bull’s Head and I really want to thank every person who voted for me which in turn has made it possible for me to donate some of my prize to DLRAA.”
Erika Hardy, marketing manager for Everards Brewery, which brews Tiger, said: “We had a tremendous response to our search for a local hero and people voted in their thousands for their most deserving hero from our chosen 16.
“We knew pubs were the ideal hunting ground for unearthing heroic achievers and Tudor is a very deserving runner up. He has done so much for his local rugby club and can truly be described as a pillar of his community.”
