Savour The Taste Of Sporting Success
Posted on 18th June 2009
Unveiled as a special guest beer in honour of the achievements of the city’s rugby union and football teams, Champions celebrates both Leicester Tigers winning the Guinness Premiership and Leicester City securing promotion to the football Championship by winning League One.
Packed with zesty, summer fruits flavours, Champions (4.3% ABV) is a light beer ideal for summertime drinking. It is made with a blend of Tettnang, Fuggles, Goldings, Challenger and Cascade hops, has a golden amber colour and a fruity, citrus aroma.
Everards’ Head Brewer Graham Giblett said: “We felt the city’s sporting success deserved special recognition and what better way than by honouring both with a delicious commemorative beer.
“Champions also heralds the start of summer and is a light, refreshing beer perfect for the warmer weather. We urge people to try a pint at their local Everards pub over the next month and tell us what they think.”
The Bakers Arms in Blaby, Leicester, was one of the first Everards pubs to offer its customers Champions on tap.
Jamie Page, who runs the pub with his father Ernie, said: “We are a big rugby pub with many of our customers devoted followers of the Tigers.
“They have reacted very positively to Champions saying it’s a refreshing drink. Our first barrel sold out in just two days, so we’re eager to get more in as quickly as possible.”
