Team Sunchaser Makes A Splash For Charity

Posted on 25th June 2009

Staff from Everards Brewery entered the Dragon Boat Festival on Sunday 7 June, part of the city council’s annual Riverside Festival at Bede Park.

The first race took place at 10.30am on the River Soar and continued throughout the day as 28 dragon boat teams battled it out for a place in the grand final.

Ian Gibson, compliance manager for Everards and captain of the company’s dragon boat squad, said: “We are longstanding supporters of PROSTaid and our chairman Richard Everard is a patron of the charity.

“Although we didn’t win all of our races on the day, there was bags of enthusiasm and above all determination to raise as much money as possible through the support of colleagues, friends and family.”

Leicester Riverside Festival is one of Leicester’s largest outdoor attractions attracting more than 15,000 visitors to the city. Now in its 12th year, the weekend-long event includes live music and dance, a children’s fair, BMX and trials bike displays and circus skills workshops.

PROSTaid is a prostate cancer charity serving Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire. Funds raised in support of PROSTaid go towards purchasing equipment for local hospitals and clinics, providing patient support staff and campaigning to educate and raise awareness about prostate cancer.
