New look for The Beacon, Loughborough

Posted on 8th August 2011

A £90,000 refurbishment, including a brand new kitchen, is helping The Beacon shine as it offers a new menu for the first time in its history.

Located on Beacon Road, Loughborough, the pub has just undergone an internal r revamp with the additional launch of a brand new food offer. A former bottle room and storage area has been transformed into a brand new kitchen and a series of improvements have been made to the bar and lounge area.

As a result of the refurbishment, The Beacon is now able to offer a food service from Tuesday to Sunday with the new menu providing a mixture of traditional pub grub and a series of special dishes prepared by the in-house chef. So far these have included lobster thermidor and mussels and the current favourite among regulars Sharon’s fabulous faggots – the traditional meaty dish combined with mash and mushy peas, proving top of the taste charts so far.

Sharon Johnston, who is about to mark her first year as licensee at The Beacon in September, said: “The refurbishment looks great and has enabled us to achieve our main aim of offering food at the pub. It’s the first time the pub has had food on board and the new menu is proving very popular.

“All of the meats we use are locally sourced from the local butchers and customers seem to appreciate that we are now able to offer food in the pub.”

A fish and chip night has already been established on Fridays and there are plans for further themed food nights in the coming months. A steak night and a curry night are among those planned for the future.

Away from the successful launch of it’s new menu, The Beacon has also been enjoying a blooming good time in the awards stakes, after claiming the title of Best Pub in the Loughborough in Bloom pub category. The Beacon will now
go forward for the regional In Bloom finals, with the results of the competition due to be announced in September.
