Raise a Toast to Summer ‘Inn The Shade’
Posted on 10th August 2009
The seven created Inn The Shade as part of an advanced beer and cellar management training course run by the brewery.
Licensees Steve Marshall, Neil Henderson, Steve Hussey, John Freason, Jay Cooledge and Paul Murphy. were tasked with designing, brewing and naming a brand new ale for distribution across the Everards pub estate.
Their tipple of choice, Inn The Shade, is a mid-strength ale (4.0% ABV) with a light auburn colour, a sweet, zesty flavour and a flowery, citrus summer aroma.
Steve Marshall from the Air Hostess in Tollerton, Nottinghamshire, was a delegate on the course. He said: “The course was fantastic. We all learnt so much and it was great to be able to give our input and interact.
“With summer in full swing we all agreed to theme our ale for the coming months. We wanted it to be refreshing and fruity as we knew that would appeal to customers. Inn The Shade has gone down well with most of our regulars and it’s a really satisfying feeling to see our own creation so successful.”
Besides practical brewing skills, Steve and his colleagues also learned about the history of brewing, beer management, use of glassware and product merchandising during the intensive two day Gold Level training course hosted at the Brewery.
Each delegate had to pass written exams before progressing to the brewing stage of the course and now joins a select group of nearly 60 Everards licensees to have successfully completed the scheme.
