Good Luck to Our Lads
Posted on 8th September 2009
Frank Ward and Peter Adcock, colleagues here at Everards Brewery and their friend Tony Findley will embark on the epic 300 mile journey this week.
Together they have already smashed an original target of raising £3,750 for their nominated charity LOROS, the Leicestershire and Rutland Organisations for the Relief of Suffering. So far the lads have raised over £8,000 and they hope to reach £10,000 by the time they reach Paris.
Frank, 53, and Tony, 52, were originally approached by Peter, 30, to take part in the event but at first the thought of cycling such a long distance didn’t impress Frank.
He said: “I wasn’t too keen because 300 miles is a great distance and the event is something I’d never considered before. After thinking about it for a while I realised that this was a chance to achieve something personally and raise money for a really good cause in the process.”
The guys have been training hard since signing up, cycling to and from work every day and out two or three nights a week and have seen their fitness massively improve.
Money raised so far has come through fundraising activities outside local stores on static bikes, a lottery bonus ball run each week at Everards, raffle competitions and kind-hearted donators. Frank and Peter also cycled to Everards pub The Greyhound in Loughborough to hand over a collection tin to licensees Paul and Tina Stevens, who contributed a bottle of champagne as a raffle prize.
Frank said: “We reached our minimum target a lot quicker than we expected and are really pleased with it but now we’d like to raise even more and hit £10,000.
“We chose LOROS as it is a local charity to Leicester and we knew people would be more enthusiastic to support us as many people in the community know someone who has made use of the amazing support the charity provides.”
Erika Hardy, Marketing Manager for Everards, said: “We are really thrilled with the effort our colleagues Frank and Peter and their friend Tony have put into this bike ride. It’s quite a challenge that they have taken on and they are working really hard to raise as much as they can for LOROS.
“We wish them all the best of luck over the next couple of days and will be keeping a close eye on their progress throughout their grueling journey.”
