History
Originally, the Heathcote Arms were 4 cottages built around 1751 and later sold to the Heathcote family, most of whom originated from Chigwell in Essex. The Heathcote family converted the cottages into a public house and named it the ‘Heathcote Arms’.
They also had two further outbuildings erected, one of these buildings was used as a cattle shed / pig sty / stable until it was converted in 1926 to what is now the skittle alley. The other building was originally used to brew beer but was converted to a slaughter house by publican William Taylor.Today this is used as a store room by the current tenants.
By 1892 the Heathcote Arms was selling beer brewed by Thomas William Everard Co Ltd who then purchased the pub on 23rd February 1920 and still own it to this day.
