Location
The village of Ratby is located 5 miles to the west of Leicester city centre and just south of the M1. Its proximity to Leicester means that Ratby forms part
of the ‘Leicester Urban Area’. In 2001, it was recorded as having a population of 4000. The oldest known human settlement in Ratby was located on
the outskirts of the village, at Bury Camp. It was an Iron Age encampment, dating back approximately 3000 years. Later, the Roman Army adapted the camp for use as a temporary fort.
