The Golden Fleece

18 Sheep Market, Stamford, PE9 2RB

About this opportunity

Following four successful years at The Golden Fleece in Stamford, Mick and Carole have decided to go move on to pastures new – Mick to retire and Carol to explore new opportunities.

The Golden Fleece is located right in the middle of this beautiful, historic place. It dominates the old Sheep Market and is the first pub visitors see as they walk towards the town centre from the train and bus stations. The Golden Fleece is very much in keeping with Stamford’s historic look and feel.

Located on a paved, pedestrianised section of the town, the pub is set well back from the road, directly opposite the new Eleanor Cross monument. Its location is perfectly positioned and attracts tourists and locals alike, particularly in summer when the outside tables offer one of the town’s best spots to relax and watch the world go by.

The Interior has recently been refurbished offering an open-plan bar/ lounge running across the length of the pub, with a separate dining area towards the rear catering for approximately 100 covers which includes the outside seating. There is an established food trade focusing on homemade pub classics and an excellent reputation for quality drinks and entertainment which includes BT Sports, live bands, karaoke and local pub quiz.

Mick and Carole leave a great opportunity for someone to take on a well-established business in one of the most attractive and frequently visited towns in England.

The community

One of the oldest towns in England, Stamford is full of character and one of the most visited places in the region all year around.

The town has a wealth of historical buildings and churches from medieval and Georgian times including the popular Burghley House, host of the world-famous Burghley Horse Trials and Tolethorpe Hall now home to Stamford Shakespeare Company.

Stamford is also a shopper’s haven, with its thriving Friday market offering quality local produce, narrow alleyways homing a variety of speciality shops, fine jewellers and designer boutiques and a proper High Street with a great choice of independent and well-known retailers.

There are no less than five primary schools in the immediate area rated either Good or Outstanding by Ofsted.

The town is served by Stamford railway station which has direct services to Leicester, Birmingham and Stansted Airport (via Cambridge) on the Birmingham to Peterborough Line. London can be reached in just 75 minutes with one stop.

It is easily accessible via the A1, with Cambridge being just an hour away. Birmingham is less than a two hour drive. The main bus routes are to Peterborough via Helpston or Wansford and to Oakham, Grantham, Uppingham and Bourne.
