Find out how Claire succeeded in becoming a Beer Sommelier
Claire Cannell loves beer. Fact.
And Everards are proud to see Claire pass and become an accredited Beer Sommelier. The first female in Leicestershire to hold this elite qualification from the Beer and Cider Academy.
Claire said: “I’ve enjoyed the discovery of learning how to appreciate and really taste beers. It feels great that I have credibility behind my presentations in beer and food matching and that I have been recognised as a specialist in an area that I am truly passionate about.”
Claire discovered cask ale whilst working part time at a pub and soon after landed her dream job at Everards Brewery where she has been working since 2008. She began as a Marketing Assistant but her passion and enthusiasm for beer has seen her promoted over the years and she is now an Events and Promotions Manager where she develops ideas and concepts for their monthly ales calendar, writes tasting notes, recommends food matches and creates supporting materials for these beers.
She strives to champion beer and food within the Everards pub estate and to their partner accounts by delivering interactive and insightful beer and food experiences to elevate the perception of beer and encourage consumers to trial different styles. She is a strong believer that there really is a beer for everyone and if you say you don’t like beer, it’s because you haven’t found the one you love yet!
Claire loves the world of beer and is proud to be part of the brewing industry. Trying different and inspirational beers from local and national breweries not only helps with her work at Everards but is a true passion for Claire. The beer sommelier achievement is a hard one to achieve; with four stages to pass through including blind tasting, this course is not one for the feint hearted.
When asked which beer her favourite beer was, Claire replied: “This is a really tough one as there are so many I enjoy, and it depends on the occasion, but Tiger is way up there as a beer I absolutely love. I really enjoy Marstons Cherry Head, Spill The Beans from Brains Brewery and Black Zombie by Amundsen Bryggari as well, if you haven’t tried any of these then you’re missing out!”
Claire is very proud to join such an esteemed group of just 180 across the UK and all at Everards are extremely proud of Claire and her achievement!
Claire is looking forward using the extensive skills and knowledge that she has acquired from the Beer and Cider Academy to assist in the development of the Everards beer range.
