Double award winners for investment in Leicestershire
We’re delighted to see our new home receive such recognition!
The popular West End pub is undergoing a £250,000 revamp, bringing a new café bar to the area alongside the much-loved traditional pub it is known for thanks to new business owners John & Moira.
The 125-year-old pub on Western Road is currently closed and hidden away behind scaffolding as it goes through the refurbishment. The joint investment by new business owners John and Moira Rossiter and Everards of Leicestershire will see the addition of a new contemporary café bar providing a relaxing area to enjoy quality coffee and hot drinks with cakes, pastries and paninis from 8am and taking on the role of a bar as it heads into the evening. It will also provide the perfect setting for pre-theatre dining for those taking in a show at the onsite theatre, which is home to theatre group Upstairs at the Western.
Coffee lovers will be able to grab a coffee on the go from 6am at the new coffee bar located in the pub garden, which will serve a selection of hot drinks and pastries.
The pub itself is receiving a full makeover. The traditional charm of a proper pub, that The Western is known and loved for, will remain with its bar lined with real ales alongside a wide range of other drinks.
John and Moira are also the business owners of the Sir Robert Peel on Jarrom Street in Leicester, where they have created a great pub for their community. This is their second pub with Everards and something they have wanted to do for some time. They are very excited about taking on The Western and all the work they are doing to make it a great pub for the community, and they plan to open late July if restrictions are lifted.
Business owner Moira said, “We got the keys to The Western about a year ago. It was a pub we were keen to take on as our own, so when the opportunity came up, we were very excited and could see just how much potential the pub had to bring something exciting to the local community.
We took The Western on during the first lockdown, not realising the doors would be closed this long. It’s been a difficult and uncertain time for us, just like it has for everyone in hospitability. We have such great plans for The Western and so much passion for the pub industry, but with no money coming in through either of our pubs, at times it’s been a struggle to stay positive. Everards have been fantastic during this time, as we know they would be after having the Sir Robert Peel with them for five years. And, together we decided now was the right time to transform The Western and undergo the revamp, which has sparked our excitement once again. The pub is looking great as we see it change daily and we can’t wait to welcome the local community to their new pub this summer.”
Steve Russell, Business Relationship Manager at Everards added; “With new and very experienced business owners John and Moira at the helm, The Western is set to be put back at the heart of the local community.
The introduction of a contemporary café area with its own entrance creates an additional offer to back up its traditional beer and spirit business and will offer an additional service for the theatre patrons.”
You can follow the progress of The Western on their Facebook page where John and Moira are sharing their journey week-by-week.
