Each year the Rutland branch of Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) selects their Pub of The Year and we are delighted to see The White Lion Inn in Whissendine awarded Rutland Pub of The Year 2019.

Pubs across the county are judged on a set of criteria which includes; the beer quality, welcome, and community involvement.

Jon Whowell, Chairman of Rutland CAMRA said “Judging the 60 pubs we have in the county is hard work – honestly! Our teams have visited all the pubs, and sports clubs that sell real ale. The White Lion Inn is a great example of what a proper pub should be.

Business Owners Chris Stevenson and Yolanda Rees have built up an enviable business offering great beer and food and their friendly team provides excellent hospitality. They are very well-deserved winners.”

Chris said “As you can imagine Yolanda and I are really pleased to get this award. We try and go the extra mile to make the pub a welcoming place. The team here are amazing and we are lucky to have a good base of locals supporting us. We occasionally have conjuring shows here, but this award is pure magic.”
