The Spencer Memorial Garden Competition is now in its 32nd blooming year – and for the first time ever, YOU get a say in who wins!

We’ve introduced a brand new People’s Choice Award and we want you on the judging panel. This is your chance to vote for the Everards pub you think has the best outdoor space.

Picture the scene: The sun’s out (miraculously), your mates are free, and you're picking the perfect pub garden for the evening. Where are you going – and why?

🌿 Is it the cool urban courtyard?
🌞 The dreamy sun trap patio?
🍻 The vibe that just screams summer?

This competition was lovingly created by Richard Everard in memory of his parents, who were passionate gardeners. Their love for beautiful outdoor spaces lives on in this competition – and in the many welcoming pub gardens across our estate. From traditional planters to creative outdoor experiences, we’re celebrating the spaces that make those pub moments extra special.

This new People’s Choice is a special additional category – all our usual judging will still take place as normal, with Richard, Serena, Julian and the team visiting pubs and awarding bronze, silver, gold, gold gilt, and overall winner titles as part of the long-standing tradition.

Votes are open now, and the winner will be crowned this September at our annual celebration, alongside our Gold Gilt winners!

The People’s Choice winner will be announced on 15th September 2025 at our annual celebration, alongside our Gold Guilt winners.
